Where We Climb

SINKS CANYON

Lander has long been known as "where the road ends and the trail begins" because of Sinks Canyon State Park. At the south entrance to the Wind River Range, Sinks offers multiple vistas and beautiful hikes for every visitor. Named for its unique geological formation, "The Sinks", because of the mysterious vanishing and reappearing of the Popo Agie River in the mouth of the canyon. Sinks offers an excellent variety of YEAR ROUND climbing! It has sandstone crack climbing at the bottom, limestone sport climbing in the middle and mixed granite climbing at the top. This is where rock climbing began in Lander and it has continued to be world renowned for its quality rock and beautiful views. Visit our Sinks Canyon Climbing guide for a full review of routes.
